“A Decade of Dust”
Ten years ago, we set out on a mission to redefine the narrative of the retail surf shop, with a focus on surfboards. At the time, Glide had already been in operation for three years, and Ryan Lovelace had visited us during his “Shapetastic Voyage.” However, we were still using other shapers’ bays and contracting out the glasswork. We were growing and wanted to take things further by launching a shaper residency program.
It was Ryan who, jokingly, suggested that we should get our own space and establish a proper glass shop. We took the idea to heart—and enthusiastically took the plunge. Within two weeks, we had secured a location, started construction, and decided on a name inspired by a 1970s National Geographic map of “The Heavens.” From there, we hit the ground running.
Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of hosting some of the world’s most talented shapers, glassers, and creatives. A Decade of Dust captures our journey, from the early days in a humble underground space in Asbury Park—where we lacked basic amenities like HVAC and even a bathroom—to our current, modern, and fully permitted industrial facility just a few miles away.
Along the way, we’ve received tremendous support from so many people. This film not only offers an inside look into our operations but also serves as a heartfelt thank you to everyone who believed in our vision.
